Custom browse / sort tag

$

I’m using custom scan and custom browse to be able to browse my jazz and classical library. For example, for classical albums I tag work, opus, movement, period, perfomer, band, etc.
Now comes the tricky bit; when browsing by period (baroque, renaissance, classical, romantic, etc), I would like to sort the period chronologically. For example, the menu would look like (from top to bottem)

Medieval
Renaissance
Baroque
Classical
Romantic
Modernist
Postmodernist

Is there a way to configure the custom sort or is it not possible? I think I have the options to sort numeric or alphabatically but that does not help in this case.

After some fiddling I found out that pcp v5. 0.1 does not work with hidden SSID or SSID with - or _ in the name.
Perhaps it's solved in v6 but anyway maybe it saves someone testing this.

IR-Blaster support on LMS 8.0

I just realised IR-Blaster v6.2.1 is showing as unsupported on my LMS version (v8.0.0)

I can't event find where I got the latest v6.2.1 of IR-Blaster, so I'm not sure if it's still being updated, or if the issue is just a version pre-req issue.

Anyone still using IR-Blaster on LMS 8 ?

Thanks.

I installed Squeezeplay but OS says the app is by an unverified developer, so wont run it. Is there a player by a verified developer? It doesnt need to be in the mac OS App store, but at least a verified one?

wanted: Joggler-like Touch/Jive skin with larger fonts, for IR remote use (7" pCP)

Before I jump in and try to make a derivative of Jivelite's Joggler skin with larger fonts (or try to make pull request for adding font size options), has anybody released a Jive/Touch skin like Joggler that's remote-control friendly for 800x480 screens?

My basic desire is to double the font size for the Joggler skin. This should make its text about the same size as is used by SB Touch in "remote" mode, and thanks to the larger display this should mean displaying about as much info on the 7" Jivelite player as SB Touch does in "touch" mode.

(Of course what I'd really like is for Joggler skin on Jivelite on pCP to behave like SB Touch and use larger text when it has recently been controlled via IR codes. The current Joggler skin font size is great when the device is being controlled via touchscreen.)

Thanks!

Peter

Announce - Song info plugin for CBC/Radio-Canada (English and French services)

$

This announcement is for two distinct plugins for the CBC Radio services of Canada.
The English service (CBC Radio One and CBC Music) is at https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio
The French service (ICI Musique and ICI Première) is at https://www.ici.radiocanada.ca/ (completely different programmes / music to the English service)

Depending on the station / programme, it presents track information (Artist, Title, Cover Art, Label, Year) or programme information (Title, Synopsis, Artwork).

If you do not see what you are hearing then first check with the "CBC Listen" or Radio-Canada "RC OHdio" app or their web sites to see if they have the same problem.

There are two plugins because, for now at least, the plugin code has some parts that assume that only a single broadcaster being supported - and because CBC/Radio-Canada have chosen to implement their URLs and data feeds completely differently - almost like they have two completely different and isolated development teams.

There are still a few things I need to resolve, particularly for the French stations. Mainly because RadioTime has different names for the stations to the ones that Radio-Canada uses so matching some of them has been tricky plus some appear to be missing.

Also - the French services do not provide cover art for tracks and often have no label information.
Again for the French service, I have added an option (disabled by default) to try to get track info from an additional location because their primary one often has nothing. However, it has side-effects because their alternate source (the same as the use for their web site ticker at the top of the page) does not have the end time / duration for tracks so in a programme with spoken links you will see the track name still displayed while people are talking.

They should appear in the list of 3rd-party plugins over the next day or so.

RTE Ireland - Now Playing info for programmes

I have just made a plugin for RTE stations - it shows information about the programme that you are streaming (title, synopsis, playing time and image) but no song info and no access to their archive to listen again to things.

If there is some interest then I'll release it - but I could do with someone in a different timezone to Dublin to test it (they present the timestamps as Dublin local without a timezone so I have to try to handle it ... which I think I have done).

I think I also need to work out how to add Listen Again capabilities to the plugins that I have built ... I expect I'll have to look more closely at iPlayer plugin to see how to do it.

Use Android Tablet as display for LMS player and to control LMS player

$

Hi

I am completely new to Android (Apple person - sorry) but have now an Android tablet which I would like to integrate into my LMS system.

I could just use a browser and the material skin - but I am looking for different options.

I like a display of the currently playing tracks / albums / album art (for which I could switch to the material skin), but also like these VU meters. It seems, that that jivelite could be an option, but I don't think I can use it on an android tablet.

To make it more complex, it would be nice if I could switch to different players, but this would be optional.

Oh - my players are at the moment all AirPlay 2 speakers.

So I am open to ideas and suggestions, and would even consider installing Linux on the tablet if this works (no idea if I can jailbreak it).

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions,

Rainer

Announce - Programme info plugin for RTE Ireland

This announcement is for a plugin to show information about the currently playing programme from a set of nine RTE stations.
https://rte.ie/radio/

You should see programme information (Title, Synopsis, Artwork and Duration) - but unfortunately not song details (their own web site and mobile phone app do not show them either).

If you do not see what you are hearing then first check with their app or their web sites to see if they have the same problem.

There is the potential for the wrong details to be shown in you are not in the same timezone as Ireland.
I think I have corrected for this - but will need some to confirm.

They should appear in the list of 3rd-party plugins over the next day or so.

How to make a 'recently played' menu entry?

$

It seems as though this should be easy but I cannot figure out how to do it. I would like a menu item called something like 'recently played' where recent tracks would appear. Ideally this would keep note of tracks by player. I've tried to combine some plugins by Erland and/or to use the PLayLog plugin but I just cannot see how to achieve this. I've looked at previous examples in the forum but I can't make any of suggestions I found work for me.

I have a simple Debian install, two booms, two radios, plugins that share to a Linn Magik DSM and a picoreplayer.

Any help appreciated, Stuart

Stuttering with 192Khz Material with New DAC .................

OK, I just got a new DAC (Black Ice DAC) in house and it works fine with all program material except 192Khz Stuff,
where it stutters and does not play at all. Plays 96Khz stuff just fine.

Spoke to the CEO at Jolida and he is convinced it is a software setting, just as I was convinced it was his DAC.

I also have 3 other DACS in house where LMS Plays the 192Khz just fine, but the CEO is convinced it is a setting
within PiCorePlayer/LMS

This is occurring with the Allo Digione Board and PcP 5.0.1 on the Rpi and LMS 8.0 running on my Synology NAS

I am basically just using all of the default settings of PiCorePlayer with the Allo Digione Board on a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ ... Have not had any problems in years.

Edit: -- Same result with another Raspberry Pi with HiFi Berry Digital Output Board on a Different Raspberry Pi

[Announce] SqueezeIR Trigger Plugin

$

Thanks to the SqueezeIR applet, one can use a Squeezebox Controller to send infrared signals to auxillary equipment.

The attached SqueezeIR Trigger plugin is a SqueezeIR helper that allows one to send an IR signal once a specific Squeezebox player is turned on or off. I wrote it to power on an amplifier whenever the Squeezebox Receiver connected to it is turned on. And, even better, power off the amplifier when the Receiver is turned off. That, I used to forget quite often...

This is my first attempt at writing an LMS plugin. It is based on the PowerMonitor plugin. While the plugin works for me, it might not work for others. Please let me know about any problems you enncounter and suggestions for improvements you have.

There are a couple of improvements I can think of already. I hope more experienced plugin writers could point out how to implement those or where something similar has been implemented already:
  • Provide a drop-down list of Squeezebox players on the settings page. I'm not sure how to properly filter out players that can't be controller by IR signals.
  • Provide a drop-down list of Squeezebox controllers on the settings page. I don't know whether there is a way to list those at all.
  • Validate all settings on input. How can I implement value checking in the settings page?
  • Support the configuration of an unrestricted number of notifications (player state changes) and potentially different players and controllers. How can I allow the user to specify as many sets of attributes as she/he likes, i.e. add fresh configuration sections and delete existing ones?

For other users it might also be necessary to add the following functionality:
  • Differentiate between powering on and powering off

Actually, I don't want to put too much efforrt into this because I still hope there might be a way to integrate the functionality into the SqueezeIR applet. On the other hand, there are many other notifications a plugin like this might react to, see the documentation of command line interface included in the server's help pages and the Slim::Control:Request module. And there are many other actions one might trigger other than sending IR signals.

Have fun, maf

Can you Shutdown LMS on the LMS Web Control Page?

I started wondering about this when I saw the message

"Warning: Logitech Media Server (LMS) is a server database application and needs to be shutdown properly"

It would also be nice to Restart LMS, as well as a Complete Shutdown of LMS on the LMS Web Control Page. Maybe this feature is already there, and I can't find it?

Material Skin is blank in browser on Android

I have two Android devices which I would like to use as remotes for LMS by using the Material Skin (and the LMS-Material-App to which I will come in another post).

One is a

Lenovo tablet, Android 4.4.2,

the other one a

Motorola phone, Android 6.0

In both of these, opening the Material skin in Chrome, results in a blank page, while it works in all iOS devices.

Where / how to install mpg123 on high sierra

$

Apologies for this very basic question....

I'm a long-time (since slimp3 days) non-techie user. I've recently updated LMS and am using the superb squeezelite / localplayer option. I understand that I need to install mpg123 in order to play mp3 tracks but I can't - despite much searching - work out how to...

I think that I maybe need some additional mac software to install it such as brew...?
I followed the instructions on macappstore mpg123
I've downloaded mpg123-1.25.13 from [mpg123 dot de
I then ran the code in terminal but it returned bash:command not found

I don't really understand where I need to install mpg123..

I also tried from the LMS advanced settings for localplayer where it says:
To support mp3 playback you should install the mpg123 codec for osx. This can be installed from the rudix project (direct links: Snow Leopard, Lion/Mountain Lion).
But the direct links come up broken and on the rudix page I can't see an mpg123 file...

Once again apologies for the very basic question but I'd appreciate any pointers / help.

Kind regards,
Beau

Spicefly Sugarcube on Raspberry Pi using Dynamic Path Conversion

$

I recently installed LMS 7.9.2 on a new Raspberry Pi 4. I wanted to still be able to use MusicIP and discovered that you can have MusicIP running on a different server from LMS by using spicefly sugarcube and the DPC option. So I have a Windows 10 PC running MusicIP and setup spicefly to send the request to the MusicIP PC for the next track . Unfortunately, I get an error that says "MusicIP Failed" and so spicefly just adds a random track.

Here is what I have and have done:

On the Raspberry Pi, I have an external USB drive that contains the LMS library. The folder containing the tracks is sharable using Samba and MusicIP on the PC is pointing to this folder. As a test, I created a MusicIP mix on the PC successfully. On the Pi, I setup DPC as shown below. I have also attached the server log file that shows the activity as well as the error message.

Any would be appreciated.
